FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Questions from schools and families.

How the curriculum, classroom activity, Earth Day celebration, and planning process fit together.

Is this a curriculum or a kit sale?

It is an educational curriculum connecting visual art with trees, wildlife, habitats, and environmental care. The sculpture is a learning activity within the program. Student art materials are included in the cost of the program option a school or district selects; they are not presented as a separate kit purchase.

What do students learn?

Students observe the natural world, discuss how trees support wildlife, interpret their ideas through sculpture, and explain their choices in a presentation or reflection. The approach supports art making, inquiry, communication, and environmental stewardship.

Who guides the classroom experience?

Teachers guide observation, discussion, art making, and reflection using the program's learning sequence and activity guidance. We can discuss how the experience fits a school's grade levels, goals, and schedule.

What materials are included?

The selected program option includes teacher guidance, discovery resources, and the student sculpture and art materials needed for the activity. We will specify the exact scope in a school or district proposal.

What is VFD Earth Day All Day?

It is an opportunity to extend the curriculum into an Earth Day celebration. Students can display their work and explain what they discovered about wildlife, habitats, art, and caring for the environment. Schools may plan a classroom showcase, school exhibition, or wider district activity.

Does participation require an Earth Day event?

No. The curriculum can stand on its own. An Earth Day showcase is an optional way to share student learning with families and the school community.

Are grants or federal funds guaranteed to cover the program?

No. A school or district must determine whether a funding source is available, whether the applicant is eligible, and whether the proposed costs are allowable. Our funding resources page links to official program and contact information.

How do we begin a school or district pilot?

Tell us the grade levels, participating schools, estimated student count, learning goals, and preferred timeframe. We can use that information to discuss a suitable program option and prepare a proposal.
